First Lady of the United States of America and me!
Today, on June 28th, 2007, I met the First Lady Laura Bush and the First Lady of the Republic of Zambia, Maureen Mwanawasa. It was such an honor.
I almost probably met most of the Chief of Parties for most of the NGO missions in Zambia. Oh and I met the lovely sista Melinda Doolittle, runner up on American Idol, she performed Amazing Grace with the Orphans and Vulnerable Child Choir at the program.
I also worked with the choir to prep them for Melinda Doolittle coming to sing with them. I made some friends within the group of youth.
I also met Jenna Bush who was traveling with her mom. This was part of a 4 country tour Laura Bush is in the process of to Senegal, Mali, Mozambique and our Zambia. She was looking at the issues of Malaria and HIV/AIDS in the four countries.
There was a big program today showcasing RAPIDS, the organization that I now work with and our caregivers that support People Living with HIV/AIDS in a community just outside of Lusaka. We have about 140 people living with HIV in the project and Laura Bush saw fit to visit and acknowledge the success of the project and the good work that we're doing.
It was a great start to my new work here with RAPIDS. Peace Corps has really brought me places.
CHECK OUT CNN, CBS AND ALL THE MORNING SHOWS see if you catch a glimpse of me I'm sitting in the second row In a white shirt and purple skirt with extensions in my hair.
