It's been awhile and I won't even update you on all the details but something very exciting and important happened in my village yesterday so I thought it would be great to share.
I organized with another NGO in my area called CHAMP who provide mobile VCT and sensitizing so that people can find out their HIV status. I contacted them and asked them if they could come out to my village andtest people who were interested. 74 people got tested! It was exciting to have all that interest. 10% out of the 74 were positive so there is a lot of work to do. I'm going to bring them again next month and try to double the number getting tested in the meantime, I have to work on strengthening support programs for those new people who found themselves positive yesterday because a few of them came to me to ask what they should do. One of the people who tested positively was a little girl who lost both her parents one month apart, one May 3rd '05 the other June 3rd '05 and she also is positive. Her grandmother is her caretaker and the young girl is in school so her grandmother doesn't want her to knowbecause she is afraid that it will trouble her mind, she's only 14. I cried after they left, it's just so sad. I decided to take her in since she's my daughter's age so she'll be coming on Sundays to help around the house and study with Aunety and I will help her with school fees that her grandmother cannot afford this year.
Today I met the chief as well, and he supports VCT so he might help me round more people up to find out their status.
